I have discovered the magic bullet that will bring everlasting happiness to hearts long worn from hardship. It's guaranteed to heal whatever pain you're having and doesn't even require a prescription. Better than therapy, sweeter than honey, and smoother than chocolate silk pie, I present to you:
Harry Wayne Casey
Or, as you may know him, KC.
Of KC and the Sunshine Band fame.
I was young in the 70s, but not too young to leave this man unappreciated. He was one of my first crushes. I later developed a crush-by-association on a friend of my brother's because of his resemblance to KC. Sadly, it was unrequited, maybe because I wouldn't stop asking him to shake his booty and telling him that that's the way, uh huh, uh huh, I liked it.
You have to admit that not a lot of guys would have the confidence to wear these shorts on stage. Or wear a cape with such enthusiasm (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq1MTRfiXMU). The guy was a pro. And, believe me, the passage of time has not slowed this man down. He continues to perform on the Casino Tour and even came to our own fair city not too long ago. I have to admit, either he's aged well or found a photographer who is very gifted with the airbrush.
Yesterday I downloaded "Boogie Shoes" and have decided that it is the only antivenom worth having when you've been bitten by the blues. Wake up a little cranky this morning? Run to iTunes or Rhapsody or wherever you go for your instant music gratification and click on "Buy, Buy, Buy this tune NOW."
Once your toes start tapping along to the beat, your moody little heart won't be far behind. Especially if you're wearing these shoes. Worried about having enough money to pay for that impulse buy at Sam's Club? Plug in KC and you'll be transported to an easier time. It's the Sunshine Band, for heaven's sakes! How could you go wrong??
K.C. wants to put on his boogie shoes, my friends. And he wants to boogie with you.

If ticket sales increase because of this, you ask for your cut!! Great advertisement! I will click and buy.
I was dancin' the disco in Holland at that time. Great memories!
Heaven!
Dizzy, you wild girl! How old were you then--nine?!
I am beginning to understand you better now. :)
Imagine a wedding in 1975....
although I was listening to
CAT Stevens not KC but I was in the disco scene in 78 open polyester shirts bling and all
thanks for the reminder
The past isn't what makes us who we are...
Its the FUTURE we are living into...
"Boogie Shoes" is one of my all-time favorite songs. And the band, well, how can you possibly not think that all is right with the world with them in it? Splendid post.
I love disco!!! My favorite is the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever, fabulous. And I still have trouble doing housework without Donna Summer. But I must say that first sentence "I have discovered the magic bullet that will bring everlasting happiness to hearts long worn from hardship." --poetry.fine.
I seriously need to see a picture of Bonnie Joe wearing an open polyester shirt and *bling.*
for better or worse: jimi hendrix, pink floyd, blue cheer, and other various guitar heroes gave me an electric wall never scaled by the funky flame o' disco. later on, it was the minutemen, black flag, X, medicine show, and...um...eartha kitt who protected me from (some) eighties glam rockers. but i had one weakness, oh yes, and one that might even bring us together: grandmaster flash and the furious five.
